Top 5 Reasons To Bring Your Extended Family To Breckenridge

There’s something special about traveling with the extended family. While a typical family vacation with Mom, Dad and the kids is fun, having the whole crew for the holidays or a vacation is icing on the cake. Sometimes it can be tricky traveling with that many people, but here in Breckenridge, we’ve got something for everyone. Here’s why it’s worth bringing your extended family to Breckenridge.

5 Reasons to Bring Your Extended Family to Breckenridge:

1. There’s skiing for all levels and interests

Breckenridge’s world-class groomed terrain is fun for the whole family.

Because Breckenridge Resort is home to 5 peaks, there is terrain for everyone. For beginners or youngsters, try some lessons with Ski and Ride School. For intermediate riders, try the vast amount of groomed runs on every peak. For the advanced (or the teens) check out the Peak 8 terrain park and T-Bar or Peak 10. For those who just want to take it easy and soak up some rays, Robbie’s Tavern offers great views of the slopes and hot cocktails. It’s also a perfect meeting spot for lunch to refuel.

In the summer, take the free gondola up to the base of peak 8 to enjoy bird’s eye views of Breckenridge. Search for Moose and wildlife below in Cucumber Gulch Wildlife Preserve, and once you’ve made it to the top, spend the morning exploring the Peak 8 Fun Park. Test your skills in a round of mini golf or coast down the mountain on the Alpine Slide!

2. You can take an adventure everyone can be a part of

Try a guided dog sled tour through some of the area’s most stunning countryside.

Make some memories with the family and snap some great photos too! On our not-to-miss list is dog-sledding with Good Times Adventures. While mushing and being pulled along a trail by a pack of beautiful dogs might sound hectic, it’s actually ideal for all ages and not hard to get the hang of. Your expert guide will know exactly what portions of the trail will be slow and flat – and easiest for older adults and young children. Other winter activities for the whole family to try include snowshoeing, sleigh rides and UTV tours.

In the summer, try Gold Panning at the Country Boy Mine and take their underground tour to explore mining tunnels of the past.

3. The dining possibilities are endless

Breckenridge’s vibrant restaurant scene makes it easy to find a meal that hits the spot.

Breckenridge is home to over 80 bars and restaurants, meaning you’re sure to find something everyone will love. For larger groups, try The Canteen, Quandary Grille or Sauce on the Maggie. To mix things up (and have a blast), book a Hibachi table at Asobi Teppanyaki to have your own skilled chef prepare your meal right in front of you. Another great option in Breckenridge is the Swiss Haven Restaurant. What family wouldn’t enjoy sharing a big pot of cheese or chocolate fondue? Plus, you can even cook your own steak, seafood and veggies in a hot pot of broth, so everyone can order and cook their meal to their personal preferences.

Before you head out, be sure to make reservations, especially for a larger group or during holidays and weekends. Try Open Table to see what’s available, or if you’re planning on eating somewhere that doesn’t do reservations, put your name down and expect a wait. Take the opportunity to stroll along historic Main St.- you might even want to grab some hot chocolate along the way!

4. There are events for all ages

5. You don’t need a car

The Main Street Trolley is a free transportation shuttle that services downtown Breckenridge.

In Breckenridge, getting around is a breeze- no rental cars necessary! This means less time worrying about transportation (and traffic and weather) and more time having fun. As soon as you land at Denver International Airport (DIA), load up into one of the many shuttle services heading up to the mountains- just book ahead online or over the phone and they’ll handle the rest. Plus, the family can catch up together and enjoy the view.

Once you’re in Breckenridge, take advantage of the free bus systems, the Breck Free Ride (around Breckenridge), Downtown Trolley (along Main St.) and Summit Stage (all over the county). Even most of the hotels have free shuttles that will gladly drop off and pick up right in town.

If you really think you’ll need a car for your trip, park at the free lots on Airport road and take the shuttles into town so you don’t have to worry about finding or paying for parking.

It’s great to share new experiences and spend quality time with the extended family. Next time you plan a trip to Breckenridge, bring the whole family!
